Götze advisor – “We are very relaxed, there are currently no offers”

Rot-Weiss Essen have gone into the two-week international break with a 4:0 win over Borussia Dortmund II U23. Enough time to hold important talks.

Once again, Felix Götze was one of the best players at Rot-Weiss Essen. This refers to the recent 4:0 victory against the second team of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. Whether Julian Hettwer, Paris Brunner or other BVB II attacking players, none of them had any problems against the RWE defensive boss.

No wonder it feels like all the fans of the Red & Whites are hoping for a future for Götze at Hafenstrasse. However, it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old will start his third RWE season on July 1, 2024 or seek a new challenge.

“We are definitely in open discussions. Of course, it’s not that easy because the contract expires. But we are actually in weekly contact with Christian Flüthmann and Marcus Steegmann,” said Götze after the game against BVB II.

Forecasting also asked Gary Gordon, Götze’s advisor, again at the beginning of the week. It seems to be a real fifty-fifty decision. But Gordon certainly gives RWE fans hope that Götze will stay. “Felix has said it: there is absolute transparency between Rot-Weiss Essen and him. But we’re not talking at the moment, and we don’t have to talk every day. Felix is performing and is in top form – those are great prerequisites for a player whose contract is coming to an end. Everyone knows that he feels at home in Essen. I can also reveal that there are no offers for Felix at the moment. The clubs are also sounding out the market first. There is still so much time. We are very relaxed about that. “

But that also means: According to forecasting information, Rot-Weiss Essen have not yet made Götze a contract extension offer that is ready to be signed. Gordon added: “But Felix also wants to know how RWE is planning the upcoming squad. Of course, if he stays, he would also like to continue playing at the top.”

Clearly, there are two sides to the coin here – one for RWE and one for Götze. The Götze side can be relaxed, RWE, on the other hand, would probably like to get this personnel matter wrapped up quickly. On the other hand, the calmness of Götze and his advisor must be respected and not pushed too hard. The fact remains: A Götze decision – for or against RWE – will take a few more weeks. The fans of Rot-Weiss Essen will therefore have to be patient – and can continue to hope
