Rot-Weiss Essen still have some unresolved personnel issues in the current squad. Christoph Dabrowski doesn’t want to wait forever for the cornerstones to make their decisions.
Felix Götze, Fabian Rüth, Sandro Plechaty, Björn Rother, Cedric Harenbrock, Isaiah Young, Sascha Voelcke, Nils Kaiser and Ron Berlinski: these are the nine players at Rot-Weiss Essen whose future beyond June 30, 2024 has not yet been officially clarified.
However, it is clear that Rüth, Plechaty and Rother will not receive any new job offers at the third division club from Essen-Bergeborbeck. A final decision has not yet been made regarding Young, Berlinski, Kaiser and Voelcke. However, according to our information, the tendency is that RWE will also say goodbye to this quartet at the end of the season.
Of the nine players listed, only Götze and Harenbrock can be sure that RWE are determined to keep them. Coach Christoph Dabrowski has now confirmed this. He said: “Our squad planning is in full swing. It’s no secret that we want to extend our contracts with Harenbrock and Götze.”
Dabrowski continued: “I would like to see pillars like Harenbrock and Götze extend their contracts in good time in order to send out signals to potential new arrivals. We are in constant communication with the players and advisors. There is no deadline.” However, the 45-year-old RWE coach, who extended his contract until the summer of 2026 in recent weeks, also emphasized: “But we don’t want to wait until the end of May.”
It will not be easy for RWE to announce the signing of Harenbrock and Götze in the next few days. The duo are playing a great season and are also on the radar of other clubs. The players are certainly not in as much of a hurry to sign as the club would like.
