Third division team Rot-Weiss Essen plays host to FC Ingolstadt this weekend. Head coach Christoph Dabrowski gave a personnel update at the press conference.
For the first time in five months, Rot-Weiss Essen celebrated a home win last matchday. RWE deservedly won 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund’s U23 and secured three very important points in the fight to stay in the relegation zone.
Now head coach Christoph Dabrowski’s team would like to improve on that result in the upcoming away match. On Saturday (25 February, 2 p.m.), the team will play against FC Ingolstadt, who are relegated to the second division. The Essen team will be accompanied on the long journey to the Audi Sportpark by at least 800 guest fans – that’s how many tickets RWE sold in advance.
There was some bad news for the Essen team at the press conference: Felix Götze injured himself in the win against BVB II and will be out for several weeks.
Dabrowski confirmed: “Unfortunately, Felix Götze partially tore his knee ligaments during a tackle. He will be out for the time being. Felix has been fitted with a splint to immobilise the knee. I expect him to be out for a few weeks, but I don’t have an exact prognosis yet.
Thomas Eisfeld and Luca Wollschläger have picked up a minor infection and will take a break from training on Thursday. “We’ll have to see if it’s better tomorrow. That’s why there’s a question mark over both players for the time being,” explained the RWE coach.
When I looked at my mobile phone today, I had to swallow. But that’s part of it, unfortunately. We’ve always had 23, 24 players on the training pitch recently. Now the group is a bit smaller. We have a big squad.

Winger Isaiah Young was recently absent for over a week with flu. A check-up appointment with the doctor will decide whether he can take up running training. The 24-year-old could also be short of a possible start in Ingolstadt. All other players are fit.
The coach is nevertheless confident that his team can take the momentum from the BVB game with them: “When I looked at my mobile today, I had to swallow. But unfortunately that’s part of it. We’ve always had 23, 24 players on the training pitch lately. Now the group is a bit smaller. We have a big squad. “
