Before their away game at MSV Duisburg, Alemannia Aachen announced a great initiative for a sick MSV fan.
On Saturday (November 29, 2 p.m.), MSV Duisburg will face Alemannia Aachen at home in the 3rd division. It will be a great atmosphere in the almost sold-out stadium.
Around 27,000 tickets had already been sold, with Aachen buying up all the tickets made available. 4,800 Aachen fans will accompany their team to Duisburg.
And the club announced that Aachen fans will also have the opportunity to donate their cup deposits in Duisburg. And for a good cause.
The donations will benefit 12-year-old Lea. She is a big MSV fan and was diagnosed with bone cancer at the beginning of the year. Since then, Lea has been fighting the disease with numerous treatments. In addition to several rounds of chemotherapy, she recently underwent surgery to have a piece of her thigh bone removed and replaced with a prosthesis. Further chemotherapy will be necessary to defeat the disease.
The Aachen club announced that the cup donations will be used to cover Lea’s parents’ lost wages and other costs incurred. In addition, the donations will enable Lea to enjoy special moments and experiences.
Containers for cup donations will be provided in the Aachen block. A statement reads: “Some things weigh more heavily than any rivalry. That’s why we want to support the social campaign of the active Duisburg fan scene at the upcoming away game. Lea is a passionate MSV fan, just as we are of Alemannia.”
In sporting terms, this is the first duel between the two traditional clubs in the 3rd division. The two teams have met many times outside of the 3rd division. Duisburg has 22 wins and 19 losses to its name. Sixteen games ended in a draw. The record is not quite as balanced for Duisburg. Alemannia Aachen has rarely had much to show for itself here. There have been only four wins in 28 games at MSV. Alemannia last won at Wedau on December 18, 2009, prevailing 2-0 in the second division match. Babacar Gueye scored twice in front of over 16,000 spectators.
