Kevin Großkreutz is on course for the regional league with TuS Bövinghausen. Recently, he hinted that his departure could be imminent. Ajan Dzaferoski believes he will stay.
Kevin Großkreutz has been playing for TuS Bövinghausen since January 2021. The Dortmund native also decided to play amateur football because of his family. After the promotion to the Oberliga, Bövinghausen could take the step to the Regionalliga in the summer. A farewell for Großkreutz is then also on the cards.
“I don’t know if I will still play for TuS Bövinghausen in the coming season, because I’m actually not ready to play in the regional league anymore. I went into amateur football because I no longer wanted to play under professional conditions and because I want to spend more time with my family. In the regional league, it would almost be professional conditions again,” the 2014 World Champion told the “Ruhr Nachrichten”.
Club boss Ajan Dzaferoski gave RevierSport an insight into the current situation: “The departure has not yet been decided. We have spoken with each other. In the next 14 days he will announce to us what he decides.”
Contract until 2025 plays no role
The fact that Großkreutz extended his contract until 2025 only at the beginning of the season does not play a role, he said. “There are no problems there. We are too good friends in the meantime. Friendship always comes first,” Dzaferoski assured his support in the event of a change.
Since the departure of Sebastian Tyrala, Großkreutz is no longer just a player, but also part of the coaching staff. So would a move to the sidelines also be possible? “The option also exists. But he is still ambitious and still wants to play. I don’t think you can get him completely off the ball yet,” says Dzaferoski. Whether that will happen in Bövinghausen or at another club is still unclear. “But I am hopeful that he will stay. “
Großkreutz, who Dzaferoski attests to always giving full power and putting his heart and soul into the game, is currently unable to bring this to the pitch. A torn tendon in his elbow means that he can only carry out his coaching function. “I think he will definitely have to take a break for two to three weeks,” Dzaferoski estimated.
This means that he will only be on the sidelines this afternoon at TuS Ennepetal. Bövinghausen is not taking the game against 17th place lightly. “It’s never easy in the top division. In addition, basement teams naturally want to stay in the league at all costs and step on the gas. That’s not exactly pleasant. But if we want to stay up, we have to win every game. “
