Dennis Grote experienced the 5:4 victory of league leaders SC Preußen Münster at SG Wattenscheid 09 on matchday 18 of the Regionalliga West at close quarters.
Dennis Grote is a perennial favourite in midfield for league leaders SC Preußen Münster.
In the current season, Grote has not missed a game since signing his contract at Hammer Straße and the 36-year-old also played the entire match in his team’s recent 5:4 away win against SG Wattenscheid 09 on matchday 18 of the Regionalliga West.
The match between Münster and Wattenscheid contained everything that makes for an exciting football match. In addition to a crazy comeback by Wattenscheid, the 2709 fans in the Lohrheide stadium saw nine goals, three penalties, one sending-off and suspense right to the end.
The coaches’ comments on the game can be found here.
We have to question ourselves as a team and work through the situation before we just carry on like this.

After the game, Grote also had to think about when he last experienced such a crazy game. “I’d probably have to go way back to see if I’ve experienced anything similar. In the end, of course, it was a crazy outcome for us, but in all sobriety, it must not happen that we give away a 4:1 lead at half-time and get into trouble like that even when we are outnumbered. We have to question ourselves as a team and work things through before we simply carry on like this,” explained the veteran.
Thanks to the narrow victory, Münster remain the sole leaders of the league with 41 points collected so far. Due to the fact that the match between Wuppertaler SV and Rot Weiss Ahlen had to be cancelled due to unacceptable pitch conditions, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s U23 is currently in second place with 33 points.
According to Grote, however, the match against Wattenscheid should not have been as exciting as it was, as the SCP missed the chance time and again to decide the match early and even more clearly.
“In the second half, we simply didn’t do in front and at the back what we did in the first half before that. In this phase, we missed two or three hundred percent chances to take a 5:2 lead. At the back, of course, we gave away two or three gifts and then the opponent was able to come back. You really have to give Wattschein credit for that, but we’re still very happy that we won,” said Grote, summing up the match.
On the next matchday, Preußen Münster will face SC Wiedenbrück.
