300 groundhoppers at the Gladbeck stadium: The SV Zweckel team worked up a sweat and had to rely on help from the neighbors.
SV Zweckel had not expected such an onslaught. Around 300 groundhoppers from all over Germany came to the Vestische Kampfbahn for the test match between the SVZ district league team and Dostlukspor Bottrop. The star of the day was the Gladbeck stadium.
The Black & Greens knew via their social media that groundhoppers would be attending the match. But 300 of them? No, the former Westfalen-Oberliga club didn’t expect that. That’s why nobody had fired up the barbecue. There were drinks, but even those were in short supply!
The groundhoppers’ thirst could hardly be quenched. Three or four times, those responsible had to drive to their clubhouse in the north of the city to get supplies. When even the reserves there ran out, even the nearby Wacker Gladbeck clubhouse helped out.
“Well over 20 crates are gone,” summed up sporting director Timon Reschke, who of course lent a hand with the hauling and got quite out of breath as a result. But well, it was a kind of training session for Reschke, who is active in the SVZ’s second team in the Kreisliga B when his time allows
