Three games in the Oberliga Niederrhein, 17 goals scored. The promotion and relegation race was wild.
This catch-up match day in the Oberliga Niederrhein was full of music. In one match, nothing was at stake.
Here, the sovereign leaders SF Baumberg won 3:0 at FC Büderich. The championship can hardly be taken away from the Sportfreunde. In sporting terms, you can only take your hat off to Baumberg, who declared weeks ago that they did not want to be promoted to the regional league.
Two teams that had applied for a license met at the Uhlenkrug in Essen. These were ETB SW Essen and KFC Uerdingen. The 650 spectators did not regret coming. After 97 minutes, there were ten goals and a spectacular 6:4 victory for ETB.
As a result, the Krefeld team once again failed in the promotion race, and the starting position is so curious that even the Essen team can now quietly hope for promotion again if they start a series and then finish at least third. After all, only teams that finish in the top three are ultimately entitled to promotion.
Adler Union Frintrop and Hamborn 07 have nothing in common with the top three places. The third catch-up match was about survival in the Oberliga Niederrhein. Hamborn had changed coaches before the game.
It didn’t help. The promoted team from Frintrop clearly beat the penultimate team 4:0. Man of the day: Adler striker Yannick Reiners, who single-handedly finished off Hamborn in this basement duel with his goals six, seven and eight. Melvin Ridder scored to make the final score 4:0.
As a result, Frintrop climbed to 14th place in the table. Hamborn will find it increasingly difficult to stay in the league. Sunday (3 p.m.) is perhaps their last chance, as the next basement duel is scheduled for Sunday, when Hamborn have to face third-bottom Mülheim.
Adler Union Frintrop also have another direct clash in the basement. That’s because TVD Velbert, who are just two points ahead of the Essen club, come to Frintrop on Sunday.
