Third division team Rot-Weiss Essen celebrated an emotional victory against Preußen Münster (1:0). Cedric Harenbrock set up the decisive goal.
Cedric Harenbrock has been under contract with Rot-Weiss Essen since 2017. But what happened on Sunday evening at Essen’s Hafenstraße was something even the blond had rarely experienced.
RWE celebrated a last-minute victory in injury time in the derby against Preußen Münster. Thomas Eisfeld (90.+4) made the Hafenstraße quake with his winning goal – after an assist from Harenbrock.
“For the emotions, of course, this victory was really cool. It doesn’t get more emotional than that! Just such a lucky punch in the last seconds. After the last few weeks, when we often played well but never won, a victory like this is especially good. Finally we were able to reward ourselves. I hope we can take the momentum with us,” Essen’s number eight summed up afterwards in the catacombs.
The 25-year-old celebrated his starting eleven debut this season against Münster. In the first few games he had to wait for his chance, but now he got it and was able to justify his confidence with the assist for the winning goal. The midfielder also had a few good scenes beforehand.

Harenbrock was happy about his debut in the first eleven: “It was just fun to play again. Even in the first half. We should have been leading at the break because we played good football and had many chances to score. I think we had a good plan to find myself in the gaps as well. That worked out well. In the final phase, I rather had the feeling that we lacked the final punch and that it could remain 0-0. But then we still had one action. Overall, it was a good team performance. “
Thanks to the longed-for first win of the season, Essen climbed to eleventh place. Next Saturday (02 September, 14:00), RWE will take on SC Freiburg II, who are still winless. The longest-serving player of Rot-Weiss Essen is hoping for the next success: “We played a good away game in Freiburg last year. Of course it would be nice if we could go home with three points again. “
