Here’s how the relegation battle looks for the rest of the season

Things are exciting in the bottom of the Regionalliga West. Almost half of the league is in danger of being relegated. So it’s off to the final spurt of the season in the bottom of the table.

Promotion in the Regionalliga West is virtually out of reach for league leaders Preußen Münster. But while there is not much suspense at the top of the table, the relegation battle is coming to a head as the season draws to a close.

On the 26th matchday, when many games had to be cancelled, there were two direct duels in the basement. First, 1. FC Köln II beat Rot Weiss Ahlen (3:0) on Friday evening, before SG Wattenscheid 09 beat last-place SV Straelen 2-1 on Saturday and celebrated their first win in 2023.

While Straelen have long since made their peace with the threat of relegation to the Oberliga, Wattenscheid have returned to the fight to stay in the league. And they want to follow up with another victory in the direct duel with Cologne’s reserve team on the 27th matchday.

SV Lippstadt currently occupy 10th place in the table and are only six points away from the first relegation spot. The starting position in the relegation battle in the Regionalliga West:
