Nassim Boujellab and Timothée Kolodziejczak are still Schalke professionals – but they should already have been transferred. What’s next for them.
Deadline Day is over – and two professionals who are supposed to leave Schalke 04 are still on the payroll of the Königsblauen: Nassim Boujellab (23) and Timothée Kolodziejczak (31). Both have not been part of the professional team since the beginning of the year, but have not found a new club in recent weeks. They are currently keeping fit by training with the U23 team.
Sporting director Peter Knäbel regrets the situation of the two professionals – especially with Bouejellab he suffers a bit. After all, Knäbel personally campaigned for the midfielder to be given a chance with the professionals in 2019. In his 30 Bundesliga games (one goal) for Schalke, however, the German-Moroccan failed to make a lasting impression.
Even at his loan stations FC Ingolstadt and HJK Helsinki he could not recommend himself for another chance at Schalke. “Nassim comes from the Knappenschmiede and it is of course bitter that he can’t find anything at his age,” explains the sporting director. However, the Schalkers have not received any enquiries for the 23-year-old in recent weeks.
The situation is very similar for Kolodziejczak, who only signed his contract at Schalke in October. Since the club was struggling with an injury plague in central defence at the time, the 31-year-old Frenchman was signed as a kind of emergency transfer from clublessness. Since then, it has only been enough for him to make one short Bundesliga appearance. “Nothing has come of either Kolo or Nassim,” Knäbel clarifies. There have not even been any negotiations with the players.
However, it is not completely out of the question that Kolodziejczak and Boujellab will leave Schalke this winter. After all, the transfer market is still open in some European countries – for example in Austria, Turkey, Croatia and Switzerland.
