Hester not in the squad again for “hard-fought victory” – “Doesn’t make sense at the moment”

KFC Uerdingen wins a close game against TSV Meerbusch 2-1. After the game, KFC coach Julian Stöhr explained the reasons for the absence of the nominal first-choice goalkeeper.

KFC Uerdingen defeated TSV Meerbusch 2-1 in a hard-fought match in the Oberliga Niederrhein.

The victory allowed KFC to maintain its distance from the leaders from Ratingen and consolidate its third place in the table. Meerbusch, on the other hand, remains within striking distance of the relegation spots.

Marcel Winkens, TSV’s coach, was frustrated with his team’s failure to convert chances after the game: “The defeat is very annoying. I can’t understand it. Our problem, which has been evident on several occasions in the first half of the season, is simply that we are not present enough in the box.”

The coach cited several scenes in which Meerbusch could have taken the lead: “If we had taken the lead, the game might have turned out differently. There were several situations where we should have scored.”

“It’s for professional reasons. He’s a good sportsman, which is why I wanted him. But if he can only make it to training once a week, it doesn’t make sense at the moment. However, communication is good.“

Winkens would have been happy with a draw: ”If we only have one chance and we convert it, then that’s fine and we’ll go home with a point. The second goal we conceded was just annoying. That hurts us twice and three times as much.“

KFC coach Julian Stöhr was harsh on his team despite the victory: ”The game definitely falls into the category of a hard-fought victory. The performance in the first half was not what we expected in many areas. If Meerbusch takes the lead, it’s not undeserved.”

However, Stöhr also had words of praise: “We have the quality to make it 1-0, even when things aren’t going well. We got off to a good start in the second half. The 1-1 was pretty annoying.”

Nevertheless, the Uerdingen coach had no doubts about the victory: “I always trust the team. The boys kept pushing forward. They didn’t let their heads drop. We scored the 2-1 as we had discussed in the dressing room. Kaya often cuts inside to look for the finish. Then we told him to just send Bachmann, who would then set up Reck at the near post, and that’s exactly how it happened.”

Apart from the game, Stöhr also explained the absence of goalkeeper Rafael Hester, who got into a fight with regular keeper Jonas Holzum at the beginning and has not been part of the squad for weeks now:

“It’s for professional reasons. He’s a good sportsman, which is why I wanted him. But if he can only make it to training once a week, it doesn’t make sense at the moment. However, communication is good.”
