Preußen Münster treated fans to a turbulent game at the Preußenstadion on Sunday – just like on the same day exactly one year ago in the Regionalliga West.
November 26 seems to be a day synonymous with spectacle for Preußen Münster – at least this year and last year.
Yesterday, the SCP fought a wild third division duel with Viktoria Cologne. After falling behind 0-2, the Eagles came back, turning the game around in four minutes around halftime to take a 3-2 lead, but ultimately had to settle for a 3-3 draw.
Coach Sascha Hildmann’s team put in a similarly memorable performance exactly one year ago to the day. The SCP were away in the Regionalliga West at SG Wattenscheid 09 – and, as league leaders, were the clear favorites against the relegation candidates.
However, the Münster team managed to squander their 4-1 half-time lead at the Lohrheide stadium. But after Wattenscheid equalized in the final minute, they managed to land the lucky punch. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Simon Scherder scored the 5-4 winner.
The Preußen were not granted this moment of luck a year later against Viktoria Köln. Nevertheless, Sascha Hildmann couldn’t help thinking about the events of a year ago, as the coach explained to the club media after the game. “Somehow, it all reminds me of Wattenscheid,” he said to assistant coach Louis Cordes during the game. “If we had made it 4-3, everyone would have gone crazy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.”
However, Hildmann was not dissatisfied after the second draw in a row. It had been a crazy game in which his team had fought outstandingly but made life difficult for themselves through individual mistakes. “I would have loved to win, of course. But you always have to look at the bigger picture. The way we played, it was okay,” said the coach, whose team will be away at 1. FC Saarbrücken next Saturday (2 p.m., RS live ticker).
