Hirsch remains defiant despite 6-point deficit – “Playing an outstanding season”

For 1. FC Bocholt, things are no longer going as well in the 2024 season as they were in the first half of the 2023/2024 season.

Alemannia Aachen are the big winners on matchday 26. All of their rivals dropped points – including their closest rivals in the battle for first place: 1. FC Bocholt.

Coach Dietmar Hirsch’s team lost 2-0 at SV Lippstadt. The sticking point was a sending off for captain Marc Beckert after 40 minutes.

“We played a significant part in the game going in SV Lippstadt’s favor. We were well in it in the first 20 minutes, we just lacked the can opener. After that, the game turned. We had problems with Lippstadt’s set-pieces, which were well taken. We had even more problems after the yellow card,” said Hirsch.

The Bocholt coach added: “We then fell behind after an individual mistake by our goalkeeper. We tried again with fresh energy to ignite something. But that didn’t help. We’ve now lost some ground in the battle for a place in the sun. But we’re not giving up. We still have a lot of games ahead of us. Either way, we’re playing an outstanding season. Now we’ll try to win again next week against Oberhausen.”

Felix Bechthold, Lippstadt’s coach, summed up: “I’m over the moon about the last three wins in a row. We’ve worked hard for this situation. The lads are battling and fighting their way through. That almost moves me as a coach. We always have to show this passion, then you also get that little bit of luck that you need. The lads are currently working until they can’t do any more.”
