Historic first home win against league leaders “totally deserved”

Preußen Münster celebrates its first home win in the second division in three decades. Against the league leaders, of all teams.

Preußen Münster has bagged its first home win of the season. Or, to be more precise, its first home win in the second division in three decades. And it did so against none other than the leaders of the Bundesliga 2 – Fortuna Düsseldorf. On Friday evening, the eagle bearers won 1-0.

“That was really great,” said coach Sascha Hildmann after the game to ARD and added: “It was totally deserved. We played a very good game from the first to the last minute. You can’t quite manage that Düsseldorf doesn’t have any chances in the game, you just have to parry them or be lucky. We took our chance, then had the better chances in the second half. We just had to make it 2-0, but then a 1-0 has to be enough.”

Fortunately, it wasn’t just goalkeeper Johannes Schenk who had a great day on Friday, but also the defense. And that was no coincidence for the coach: “In the last two games, it was clear that we had improved defensively and we continued that.”

Nevertheless, it was a victory for the “whole team, who worked well against the ball and played courageously up front.” The Münster team had a good game plan and his own was carried by the fans.

If it continues like this, I see a great future for us

On the subject of defense: Jano ter Horst, of all people, scored the goal of the day. What’s more, it was his first goal this season. “I told him before the game that he could score again,” joked Hildmann.

Ter Horst himself said: “It’s nice to score again. It’s an amazing feeling. We did a lot of things right as a team and defended well to see out the game. We’ve been building up to this for the last few weeks. I think we deserved to win.”

Midfielder Yassine Bouchama saw it similarly: “If we give 120 percent every time and leave our hearts on the pitch the way we did today, I look forward with joy. We defended perfectly. If it continues like this, I see a great future for us.”
