Historic first home win against league leaders “totally deserved”

Preußen Münster celebrates its first second division home win in three decades. Against the league leaders, no less.

Preußen Münster has secured its first home win of the season. More precisely, its first second division home win in three decades. And against none other than the leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga – Fortuna Düsseldorf. On Friday evening, the Eagles won 1-0.

“That was really big,” said coach Sascha Hildmann after the game to ARD, adding: “It was totally deserved. We played a very good game from the first to the last minute. You can’t completely prevent Düsseldorf from having chances in the game, you just have to save them or get lucky. We took our chance and then had the better chances in the second half. We should have made it 2-0, but sometimes 1-0 has to be enough.“

Fortunately, it wasn’t just goalkeeper Johannes Schenk who had a great day on Friday, but the entire defense. And that was no coincidence for the coach: ”It was clear in the last two games that we had improved defensively, and we continued that.”

Nevertheless, it was a victory for “the whole team, who worked well against the ball and played courageously going forward.” The Münster team had a good game plan and were carried by their fans.

If things continue like this, I see a great future for us.

Speaking of defense, the goal of the day was scored by Jano ter Horst, a defender of all people. It was also his first goal of the season. “I told him beforehand that he could score again,” joked Hildmann.

Ter Horst himself said: “It’s nice to score again. It’s an amazing feeling. We did a lot of things right as a team and defended well until the end today. That’s been building up over the last few weeks. I think we deserved to win.”

Midfielder Yassine Bouchama saw it similarly: “If we give 120 percent every time and leave our hearts on the pitch like we did today, I’m looking forward to the future with joy. We defended perfectly. If we continue like this, I see a great future for us.”
