Historic hat-trick and record attendance – the figures for the 23/24 season

The 2023/24 Regionalliga West season is over. Now it’s time to look back at some of the figures from the past season. We look at new records, special hat-tricks and heated matches.

Alemannia Aachen celebrated their return to the 3rd division this season. The team, which plays its home games at the Tivoli, finished the season at the top of the Regionalliga West with 75 points.

Top scorer Anton Heinz played a big part in this, with his 20 goals this season helping the team to promotion. This includes two hat-tricks, with one in particular standing out.

On matchday 18, Heinz achieved something unique. The 26-year-old scored three times in one match from direct free kicks. No one in German professional soccer had ever managed that before.

Most minutes played

Cologne II keeper Jonas Nickisch played the most minutes this season. The Cologne goalkeeper started all 34 games of the season. However, he had to come off at half-time on matchday 30 due to injury, meaning he missed 45 minutes of the entire season.

Most games without conceding a goal

However, the season record for the most clean sheets belongs to another goalkeeper. Lucas Fox from 1. FC Bocholt kept a total of 15 clean sheets in 33 appearances. He also only conceded a total of 28 goals. That means he kept a clean sheet in 45.5 percent of his appearances

The most dismissals

… conceded by Oktay Dal. The Rot Weiss Ahlen defender was shown two yellow cards and one straight red. Meanwhile, 1. FC Bocholt’s six-man Jan Holldack saw the most cards. He was shown a total of 13 yellow cards.

Historic spectator record

A new attendance record was set at the Tivoli when Aachen stormed the pitch on match day 31 after the game against 1. FC Bocholt. 31,034 fans visited the stadium on that Saturday afternoon to celebrate promotion. More than ever before in the Regionalliga West. The 2:1 defeat did not dampen the mood. Alemannia recorded an average attendance of 19,708 spectators per match.

When he came on as a substitute on matchday 16 against Rot Weiss Ahlen, Yannick Michaelis was crowned the youngest player of the season. At the age of 17 years, three months and 17 days, he was the seventh youngest player in the history of the Regionalliga West. However, this was to remain his only appearance of the season for Borussia Mönchengladbach’s second team.

Meanwhile,

Daniel Flottmann made 26 appearances and became the oldest player of the season on the final matchday at the age of 39 years, nine months and twelve days. That also made him the fourth-oldest player in Regionalliga West history.

FC Gütersloh fielded the oldest starting eleven on matchday 10 against Bocholt. But even the average age of 30.2 years could not avert the 2-0 defeat.

The youngest starting eleven of the season also suffered a defeat. With an average age of 20.1 years, 1. FC Köln II lost 3-1 to SC Paderborn II just one matchday later.

The game with the most cards

Things got heated at Schalke on the very first matchday. The Royal Blues’ second team lost a wild duel 2:5, with referee Ivan Mrkalj showing a total of twelve cards, including one yellow-red and one straight red. The match joins four others in second place among the most carded matches in Regionalliga West history.
