After Thomas Letsch’s botched debut, the VfL Bochum coach is about to make his home debut. Against Eintracht Frankfurt, VfL finally want to give their fans a present in the Bundesliga.
After his unsuccessful Bundesliga debut on the sidelines of VfL Bochum (0:4 in Leipzig), Thomas Letsch is already under pressure for his second game. On Saturday (15:30), the Bochum side welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to the Vonovia-Ruhrstadion for the new coach’s home debut.
Despite the deserved defeat in the first game under Letsch, Philipp Hofmann is optimistic before the match: “We tried to take out the few positive things in the video analysis and then trained again. The most important thing is that everyone gets confidence in training and of course we want to prove to the fans now that we can show a different face.”
Last season’s home game against Eintracht was a successful 2-0 win for Bochum. A result that probably all Bochum players would wish for in the current situation. However, the starting situation is of course completely different this season. After the 2-0 win against league leaders Union Berlin and the 0-0 draw in the Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspurs, Frankfurt come to the Ruhr area with a broad chest.
Giving everything to score against tough opponents
Phillip Förster also knows that it will be a tough game: “It will be a very difficult game. We have to bring the basics onto the pitch and put everything on the line. At home with the crowd, three points are possible, but only if we put everything into it.”
Hofmann added: “It’s another tough opponent. We’re going into the game to win it. Of course it won’t be easy, but at home with the fans anything is possible.”
One thing is for sure, Bochum’s current situation is definitely not down to VfL’s fans. Despite the defeats and the more than sobering start, the supporters have always been behind the team, something Hofmann also appreciates: “It’s not down to the spectators, it’s crass how they support us. That has to continue and then I hope we can give them their first win at the weekend.” with gp
