Hooligans from Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 engage in violent brawl

In terms of sport, Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 are worlds apart. But on Saturday morning, problem fans clashed with each other.

There was a violent brawl at Cologne Central Station on Saturday morning, November 1, at around 6:15 a.m. Hundreds of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 fans were involved.
According to Bild, the BVB hooligans were returning by ICE train from an away game at FC Augsburg (1-0), while the Schalke fans were on their way to an away game at Karlsruher SC. “An as yet unknown Schalke fan then pulled the emergency brake on track 8 at the station, after which 340 Schalke fans immediately stormed out of the train,” the newspaper quotes a spokeswoman for the federal police as saying. The police also speak of 340 Dortmund fans on the opposite side. In the tunnel between tracks four and five, the two groups then clashed and engaged in a violent brawl. Federal police officers separated the two groups with batons and pepper spray. One police officer was injured.

The pepper spray also had an effect on various participants in the mass brawl, which, according to “Bild,” was apparently prearranged. Together with police officers from the Cologne police headquarters, both parties were finally separated and transported back to their train cars. The trains then continued on their way, and no arrests were made.

However, investigations are ongoing for breach of the peace, grievous bodily harm, resisting police officers, and unlawful use of the emergency brake.

Borussia Dortmund won their away game in Augsburg 1-0 with a goal from Serhou Guirassy. Schalke suffered a bitter last-minute defeat at Karlsruher SC.

For a long time, it looked as if Karlsruher SC and FC Schalke 04 would draw 1-1 after goals from Kenan Karaman (66′) and Marcel Beifus (76′). But in the 93rd minute, Fabian Schleusener scored to give the home side a 2-1 victory. Schalke remain top of the table, one point ahead of SV Elversberg.
