BVB talent Soumaila Coulibaly experiences a Bundesliga debut to forget. Afterwards, he has to endure hostility on Instagram.
Edin Terzic took Soumalia Coulibaly in his arms. The 19-year-old’s Bundesliga debut was one you can’t wish on anyone. The Frenchman came on for Mats Hummels at halftime with Borussia Dortmund up 2-0 – the final score was 3-3 (2-0) between BVB and VfB Stuttgart.
Of course, coach Terzic had to console his protégé. Of course, we would have liked him to clear the ball with his right foot,” said Terzic. “But it would be absolutely wrong to make him the scapegoat now.”
Instead, the BVB coach referred to the poor pressing beforehand, Raphael Guerreiro’s impetuous coming out, the disorganization in the BVB team.
Afterwards, however, Coulibaly had to endure more than sporting criticism. On Instagram, the evening found a series of racist insults against the central defender, who trained at Paris Saint-Germain. Coulibaly restricted the comment function under his posts. Many Dortmund fans, however, showed solidarity with the young defender.
Commissioning also possible against Eintracht Frankfurt
Coulibaly has been under contract with BVB since the summer of 2021. After his transfer from Paris, the 19-year-old was not fit for action for several weeks due to a cruciate ligament tear.
In the meantime, Coulibaly plays regularly for Dortmund’s U23s in the 3rd division. It is quite possible that the Frenchman will also be used again against Eintracht Frankfurt next Saturday (6:30 p.m./Sky) due to the personnel shortages in Dortmund’s central defense.
