The reigning world champions from South Africa defeated hosts France 29-28 in a thrilling match at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, on Sunday. This secures the Springboks a place in the Rugby World Cup semi-finals.

Many in France are extremely disappointed.

In the second half, the South Africans managed to take the lead again through an attempt by Etzebeth in the 67th minute.

Although France captain Antoine Dupont was back on the field for the full match after suffering a serious head injury, South Africa was able to hold on to its one-point lead until the end.

South Africa will play England in the semi-finals
