After less good results recently, both SC Verl and Rot-Weiss Essen want to get back on track. This is how both teams will approach the match.
On Sunday (4:30 pm), SC Verl will face Rot-Weiss Essen. It is a match between two teams that have recently lost their way somewhat.
RWE have won just three of nine games in 2024. SC Verl have won just one of their last eleven matches. That’s why the team from Verl will no doubt have fond memories of the first leg, which they won 5:0 in Essen.
RWE would like to put that right. To do so, the team must be more stable again. In contrast to the 3-1 defeat against Unterhaching a week ago, RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski has made three changes.
Moussa Doumbouya will start in place of the suspended Ron Berlinski. In addition, captain Vinko Sapina returns to the starting eleven after sitting out due to injury and flu, having already lasted more than 60 minutes in the Lower Rhine Cup against KFC Uerdingen during the week. He plays for Thomas Eisfeld. In defense, Felix Götze moves back into the back four, playing for Mustafa Kourouma.
What the officials say ahead of the game
RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski: “Verl are an active team, they always want to tempt their opponents. They are really uncomfortable. I don’t want to talk them up, but I know that they’ve often come close in the last eleven games. They weren’t far away from winning. The results are a bit deceptive, we have to take our opponents very seriously.”
Verl’s sporting director Raimund Bertels: “These are the highlight games of the season. You particularly look forward to these encounters. It’s great what Essen have put together. Sticking with Christoph Dabrowski has also proved to be absolutely right. The Essen management also have my respect for that. I expect a close duel. We want to finally win and RWE will try to get back on top with a three-pointer.”
