Eintracht Frankfurt has the best mascot in the Bundesliga, 1. FC Köln the best stadium anthem – and the Ruhr clubs?
Eintracht Frankfurt has the best mascot in the Bundesliga, 1. FC Köln the best stadium anthem. At least if you believe a survey of over 10,000 football fans conducted by the FanQ platform.
Eintracht’s eagle Attila came in just ahead of Cologne’s billy goat Hennes IX and Union Berlin’s knight Keule. In the anthem category, the FC song “Mer stonn zo dir, FC Kölle” by the Höhners came out on top – ahead of Herbert Grönemeyer’s VfL song “Bochum” and “Eisern Union”, Nina Hagen’s homage to Union Berlin. The 16th to 18th places go to RB Leipzig with “Stolz des Ostens” (Pride of the East), Bayer Leverkusen with “Mit dem Kreuz auf der Brust” (With the Cross on the Chest) and TSG Hoffenheim with “Wir sind Hoffe” (We are Hope).
And how do the Ruhr clubs fare overall? Schalke’s Erwin is fourth among the Bundesliga mascots. Since May 1995, the royal blue with the bulbous nose has been the official S04 mascot. Somewhat surprisingly, Dortmund’s Emma the Bee is only in tenth place.
Because there were no children among the voters? Because Emma is heavily marketed, especially for younger fans, and there are countless fan paraphernalia featuring the chubby insect. Bochum’s Bobbi Bolzer also appeals to the little fans at the Ruhrstadion. The mouse comes in 15th place with 3.99 out of 5 possible stars. Only FC Augsburg, Werder Bremen and FSV Mainz, who no longer have a permanent mascot, follow behind.
Schalke, BVB, Bochum: in the lead for anthems
The situation is different when it comes to stadium anthems. Cologne’s “Mer stonn zo dir, FC Kölle” is in first place, followed by VfL Bochum with the anthem “Bochum” and Union Berlin with “Eisern Union”. Both clubs received 4.96 stars out of a possible 5. Close behind is Eintracht Frankfurt with “Im Herzen von Europa”. Schalke’s “Blau und Weiß, wie lieb ich dich” is in fifth place, Borussia Dortmund’s “Heja BVB/You “ll never walk alone” is in seventh place. Another iconic anthem from the neighbourhood, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s “Elf vom Niederrhein” is in ninth place.
The weakest performers are RB Leipzig with “Stolz des Ostens” (4.35 stars), Bayer Leverkusen with “Mit dem Kreuz auf der Brust” (4.32 stars) and TSG Hoffenheim with “Wir sind Hoffe” (4.11 stars).
