HSV have returned to the top flight of the 2. Bundesliga. Jahn Regensburg, who drew 0-0 with 1. FC Nürnberg, remain at the top of the table.
Hamburg had something to make up for after the emotional match against Hansa Rostock (0:1) a few days after the death of club idol Uwe Seeler. They were looking for Glatzel, who had scored 22 league goals last season. The Munich native missed the 1:0 three times (6th/18th/25th) before heading in just before half-time. The attacker had already scored twice in HSV’s opening win at Eintracht Braunschweig (2-0).
Regensburg, who got off to a furious start to the season with two league victories and a win over European Cup starters 1. FC Köln in the DFB Cup, have the best chance of remaining top of the table at the end of the weekend after the competitive duel with the club and seven points in their account. Only 1. FC Kaiserslautern and FC St. Pauli, who meet on Sunday, can still jump to the top with a victory with at least a four-goal difference.
96, on the other hand, is pretty far down the table – even though everything went smoothly at first: Havard Nielsen (12th), whom Leitl had brought to the Leine from Bundesliga relegated Greuther Fürth, and Cedric Teuchert (36th) put the visitors ahead twice. Paderborn, however, struck back through Luka Krajnc’s own goal (28th) and Marvin Pieringer’s goal (52nd), and captain Ron Schallenberg (60th) finally turned the game around. Felix Platte (89th) scored the final goal.
