Huge referee frustration for Schommers – that still gives the coach hope

Boris Schommers was once again unhappy with the referee’s performance after the defeat against Regensburg.

As against Halle, whistles were once again heard against Boris Schommers when the team presentation was read out. After the 90 minutes in front of almost 9,000 spectators, the disillusionment was great, while the visitors from Regensburg celebrated extensively with loud music in the dressing room after the 1:0 victory before the seven-hour journey home.

“We showed from the very first minute that we wanted to look for our chances against the absolute leaders and play courageous soccer,” analyzed Schommers and felt disadvantaged when Elias Huth scored the decisive goal after 35 minutes. “The goal was very much offside,” said the 45-year-old and went on to criticize.

In the decisive 50:50 situations, he said, his team is whistled against week after week. In his emotion, Schommers once again alluded to the foul on Santiago Castaneda before Hallescher FC’s 2-2 draw a week and a half ago. The foul on Caspar Jander, who had to leave the field at the break with a knock, also fitted into his picture.

“That was another one of those situations. Tackles and fouls are part of the game, but the fact that the referee had no line in the game is extremely bitter. Cas was shown a yellow card for a foul that led to a knee injury. We’ll have to wait and see. In addition, the same foul was committed twice on the halfway line. He immediately gives us a yellow card. The opponent doesn’t get it. Once again, the same yardstick is not being applied. I think that’s a great pity,” said Schommers.

The former Lauter player could not blame his team for their commitment. But with the team now eight points behind a non-relegation place, hope is fading for many fans with 14 games to go before the end of the season. The coach still believes the team can stay in the league.

“We played completely on a level playing field for 90 minutes against the league leaders, who are rightly at the top and have brute force and physicality. We had just as many chances and more corners. We have to continue on this path,” said Schommers, looking ahead.
