Schalke disappointed across the board in Magdeburg. Can Geraerts still reach the team? We discuss this in our talk.
FC Schalke 04 put in a desolate performance in the 0:3 away match at 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday evening. Schalke reporters Andreas Ernst and Robin Haack discuss the game and its consequences with Gelsenkirchen WAZ local Sinan Sat in the latest episode of 19:04 – the Schalke Talk.
And they are of the opinion that S04’s disappointing performance was due to the alignment chosen by coach Karel Geraerts. The coach’s 3-5-2 system didn’t work at all.
Why? “You’ll have to ask the players,” said Geraerts at the post-match press conference. “The players know each other, the back five is not new to them, they are actually experienced enough. It has to be better.”
An explosive fact: some players approached the coach before the game and asked not to play with a back three as they were not comfortable with it, Haack revealed. “Geraerts ignored it and failed. That’s devastating.” Ernst agrees: “That reveals difficulties between the team and the coach. “
So has the Belgian coach lost the team in the meantime? Is Marc Wilmots, who raised eyebrows with his statements after the match, the right man for the post of sporting director? And what do the words of midfielder Paul Seguin, who launched into a rant on the Sky microphone, say about the team? Our experts talk about these and many other topics in the new Talk episode
