“I would like to thank the fans first and foremost”.

Arminia Bielefeld won the explosive derby against Preußen Münster in a strong manner with 4:0. The protagonists were accordingly pleased.

Arminia Bielefeld 4, Preußen Münster 0: After more than eight years, the two fan camps, which are not exactly green to each other, once again saw a must-win match between their teams. 24,052 spectators made the pilgrimage to the Bielefeld Alm.

In the end, the people who were with Arminia celebrated. And the Bielefeld coach also thanked the supporters.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank the fans who have welcomed us with open arms in the past two competitive games. That is really something special. We were well in the game at the start and dominant. We then score the first goal and then almost always score when the opponent is having a strong phase. Today we made fewer mistakes, were more concentrated in the duels and that was the key to success in the end,” said Mitch Kniat.

Gerrit Gohlke, who scored the 4:0, reminded everyone that first Bochum and now Münster left the Alm empty-handed and bitterly disappointed.

Gohlke: “This victory feels outstanding. We managed it in a week in which we won two derbies. Of course we are very happy about that. We made it clear that we wanted to be the dominant team at home. We managed that well, even though they had a few good actions that were very dangerous. But we were brutally efficient in front of goal and scored the goals. In the end, it was extremely important for us to keep a clean sheet because we wanted to defend consistently. It’s a successful start to the season for us. We can see now that we are improving and developing from matchday to matchday.”

For Arminia, who lost their first game in Dresden and have now beaten Münster, it continues at SSV Ulm on Tuesday evening (22 August, 7pm). The “Spatzen” are, like Münster”, a promoted team. Perhaps the Regionalliga Südwest champions will suit the Bielefelders just as well as the reigning Regionalliga West title holders.
