“I’d rather not look at the table”.

SV Straelen is still at the bottom of the table. SVS also failed to win against FC Schalke 04 II and once again failed to score a goal. Captain Ole Päffgen was disappointed.

For the second time in a row, SV Straelen drew goalless with an opponent from the top region of the Regionalliga West.

After the 0:0 in Rödinghausen, the second team of Schalke 04 scored a point, but no goals. And this despite the fact that the Straelen side missed a whole cornucopia of the best scoring opportunities, especially in the second half. From the 50th to the 65th minute, the team of coach Bekim Kastrati missed top chances every minute.

Captain Ole Päffgen, who had moved from his usual right-back position to centre-back and played a good game, was disappointed after the match. “We created a lot of really good chances, but then don’t get the penultimate or last ball right and that’s why we don’t take the lead,” said the 25-year-old, who, however, also recognises progress in his team. “Defensively, we’ve been pretty solid in the last few games and haven’t conceded that many goals all season, considering where we are. But in front we lack the last experience and the unconditional will to push the thing over the line.”

The draw against the Royal Blues means that SVS are now winless in seven games and have only nine points on their account, ten points behind their rivals above the line, some of whom still have a game of catch-up to play. However, the Straelen captain is not looking at that at the moment. “I don’t think it’s worth looking at the table in our current situation, I’d rather not do that to myself,” said Päffgen. “We simply need points! From game to game it’s about getting a three-pointer and unfortunately we didn’t manage that again against Schalke.”

Päffgen and his team-mates still have two games to do that before the winter break. But the two tasks are quite a challenge. Next Saturday, the Straelen team travels to the strong promoted team Kaan-Marienborn, and one week later Rot-Weiß Oberhausen comes to the Dutch border. The SVS captain, however, is far from giving up. “It’s difficult to fight your way out of it every week because the points are simply missing,” Päffgen admitted. “But we only lost the first two games by very narrow margins. You could see that we can keep up, so we’re definitely expecting points there. “
