Immediate sponsor resignations – “This is a complete madhouse”

Next bad news for KFC Uerdingen. After all the chaos of recent months, weeks and days, the first sponsors have drawn their conclusions.

Marc Schürmann resigns as CEO of KFC Uerdingen, Schürmann announces his resignation, Ilja Ludenberg joins the KFC board, a businessman and player consultant – see transfermarkt.de – named Dr. Baris Günes is said to have an investor on the hook for KFC, Schürmann and Ludenberg go for the deal and hire Osman Sahan as sports director and Sunay Acar as coach in advance – until it all turns out to be a big scam. Forecasting reported.

The employment contracts of Sahan (three-year contract to July 1, 2024) and Acar (two-year contract to June 1, 2024) are in the bag, KFC once again has a problem – but no money. Günes is not keeping his promises and there is no investor. Schürmann and Ludenberg resign and Christian Gummert is appointed as the new chairman – until the end of the season.

In between, there are repeated disputes over delayed or unpaid salaries – and now this: Gummert is reportedly in custody.

This is the short feature film of KFC Uerdingen over the last few weeks. Events that have not only left observers, experts and, above all, fans of the Blue and Reds speechless and angry. But also left their mark on the previously loyal sponsors

I’m amazed at how calm these people remain. They should be running around with baseball bats and beating the hell out of everything. I’m surprised that KFC haven’t yet seen the kind of pictures they saw last weekend at MSV Duisburg.

Holger Krebs

As Forecasting has learned, the first four strong sponsors – according to RS information with a total volume of around 400,000 to 500,000 euros per season – have drawn their conclusions and informed the club that they are withdrawing with immediate effect. Only the current contracts until June 30, 2024 will still be fulfilled.

“I can confirm that. We no longer want our name to be dragged through the mud. We sent our notice of termination to KFC by email today, Tuesday, May 14,” confirmed Holger Krebs, representative of the companies “Kaiser BPT” and “Kick Group”. According to RS information, the sponsors “Raab Transporte” and “Biolectra” have done the same and terminated their sponsorship.

Krebs, himself a sports director at SC St. Tönis and once a member of the KFC board of directors as well as a big supporter of the Uerdingen team, is, to put it bluntly, “fed up” with the scandals surrounding KFC Uerdingen.

The businessman told Forecasting: “The last three events at KFC are simply indescribable. Simply embarrassing and sad and scandalous – all together. It’s impossible to describe what’s happening. It’s a complete madhouse.”

Krebs continued: “We’re being taken for a ride by dubious businessmen, contracts are being signed with employees, board members are resigning, the new board can’t be found and then there’s a press release of just a few lines, which is then presented by the Kick Group. We won’t go along with that anymore! That’s damage to our reputation!”

I’m very sorry for the fans and for KFC Uerdingen. It makes your heart bleed. But we can no longer hand over our money to people so that they can organize things like this. That would be a waste of sponsorship. We won’t do that anymore!

Holger Krebs

Krebs appeals above all to the KFC Board of Directors – if it still exists at all. Krebs: “The board of directors should refer to the statutes and protect the club. There must be a bit of honor and pride behind it. I can’t understand why people are standing idly by and watching this unseemly goings-on. Some KFC supporters work at our company, they have given the club a huge helping hand and repaired the Grotenburg. I’m amazed at how calm these people remain. They should be running around with baseball bats and smashing everything up. I’m surprised that KFC hasn’t seen the kind of pictures that MSV Duisburg did last weekend. Not that I’m being misunderstood: I don’t wish for scenes like that, I’m just amazed at the composure of the fans and also pay my respects for the cultural behavior.”

Krebs concluded: “I’m very sorry for the fans and for KFC Uerdingen. It makes your heart bleed. But we can no longer hand over our money to people so that they can organize such things. That would be a waste of sponsorship. We won’t do that any more!”
