Michael Preetz will remain at MSV Duisburg beyond the coming year. The managing director has extended his contract
Just a few weeks before the start of the Regionalliga West season, MSV Duisburg is sending out an important signal. Managing director Michael Preetz has extended his contract ahead of schedule, as the club announced on Wednesday morning. The Zebras did not provide any details on the exact term, but Preetz will remain with the club for the long term and regardless of the league, according to the statement
The 56-year-old’s contract originally ran until the end of the upcoming season. Preetz joined MSV at the beginning of the year – when relegation to the Regionalliga West was not yet certain, but was already looming.
The former striker was not deterred by the fact that the Meiderich club ultimately had to make the bitter journey to the fourth division – although these spheres are also completely new territory for Preetz. At his previous station in Berlin, he was still working for a club with Champions League ambitions. But the Düsseldorf native has made a credible commitment to the project in Duisburg.
“In my first six months here, I have experienced MSV as a lively club, with a lot of emotion, with enormous appeal in the city of Duisburg and the Lower Rhine region, and above all with people who get stuck in,” says Preetz about his extension. “The encouragement, the atmosphere in our city gives me the belief and strength that together we will be successful on the path we have now embarked on with the new regional league adventure. With hard work, certainly with mistakes from time to time, but above all with the conviction: The Spielverein is worth it!”

CEO Ingo Wald, whose future beyond the general meeting on July 23 is questionable, explains: “Michael Preetz has more than fulfilled the tasks and expectations that we associated with his commitment, namely to attract and retain partners for MSV, to create a noticeable spirit of optimism with the employees and to manage the sporting area.”
Preeetz and the new Head of Marketing, Christian Koke, “are pulling in the same direction and are ensuring the necessary calm and a noticeable sense of euphoria around the club. Nevertheless, we are all aware of the pressure on Michael in particular and the desire of everyone around the club for him to lead MSV back into successful waters,” Wald continued. “We are convinced that he can do it – that’s why we want to give him and MSV the necessary support, both internally and externally, for this common path with this long-term cooperation. “
