After the victory in the endurance test against Luton Town, sports director Patrick Fabian is pleased with the good performance of VfL Bochum, which has a new sponsor in the cup.
The preparation so far had given VfL Bochum only limited cause for optimism. In the first game of the double test against Luton Town (2:1), things looked much better shortly before the start of the competitive season.
“It was a good performance by our team,” said sporting director Patrick Fabian after the first 90 minutes of the endurance test, in which mainly the (supposed) regulars were used against the Premier League promoted team. And it wasn’t just the style of play that pleased the sporting director, as he admitted: “It was also important for the feeling that victory was on our side. We are on the right track.”
In fact, the victory could have been even higher for VfL. “We have to chalk that up to us, the chance exploitation was expandable,” Fabian was annoyed. He also did not like a phase of about ten minutes before halftime. “After the equalizer, it became a bit shaky, we need to be more stable there. For the current time, however, you can be very satisfied there and look forward.”
The sporting director was also satisfied with his latest acquisition. Defender Bernardo celebrated his debut in the first part of the test. “A very good performance, he was aggressive, motivated and totally integrated. Of course, we hoped for a lot and hope for more in the future, you can build on that,” Fabian analyzed the performance of the Brazilian.
The VfL wants to build on that already next Saturday (August 12, 6 pm). At Arminia Bielefeld, it goes in the first round of the DFB Cup in the first match. And the Bundesliga club will be playing in this competition with a new sponsor: As VfL announced on the sidelines of the double test and on the occasion of the season opening, the Bochum brewery Moritz Fiege will take the place on VfL’s sleeve in the cup matches.
It is a special anniversary year for both parties: while VfL celebrates its 175th anniversary, the brewery turns 145. with gp
