Third-division football club SC Verl has extended the contract of one of its key players. Vinko Sapina signs for another two years.
Vinko Sapina has prematurely extended his contract with SC Verl until the summer of 2025. The announcement was made on Friday by the club, which is twelfth in the 3rd league. The previous contract of the Croatian, who moved to the East Westphalians from SSV Ulm in 2021, would have expired after the 2022/2023 season.
“Vinko has become one of the faces of our team since joining us. He has made an impressive development here, is a cornerstone of our defence and at the same time a driver for the offence. We are very happy to have extended the contract with another key player,” said Sebastian Lange, sporting director of SC Verl.
Sapina trained with VfB Stuttgart and SSV Ulm and played two seasons with FC Memmingen in the Bavarian Regionalliga from 2014 to 2016. He returned to his hometown club SSV Ulm for the 2016/2017 season, where the defensive midfielder played a total of 106 games in the Regionalliga Südwest. In 2021, he made the leap to the 3rd Liga at Verl. He has already played 43 games for Sport Club, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
