SG Wattenscheid 09 ended the top match at SV Lippstadt with a 2-2 draw. The fans were treated to quite a show, including a long wait after a floodlight failure.
400 fans accompanied SG Wattenscheid 09 to the Oberliga Westfalen top match at SV Lippstadt. And the SG supporters had no reason to regret it. After a long evening in Lippstadt, they celebrated their team’s 2-2 draw in the end – even if the final phase was extremely bitter.
The game had a lot to offer in front of 1,512 paying spectators—a great Oberliga crowd. Robert Nnaji (2nd) tested Lippstadt keeper Luca Beermann early on.
Wattenscheid were the better team in the first half. There weren’t any big chances, but there were two goals. In order.
The 1-0 for SG in the 32nd minute: Fynn Wortmann and Ilias Anan pressed hard up front and Anan snatched the ball, kept his cool and lobbed it in to make it 1-0. The 09 fans were ecstatic and celebrated.
Then, shortly before halftime, came the shock: Nico Tübing won a sprint duel against Albin Thaqi and shot at goal—Joshua Mroß could only watch as the ball flew past him: 1-1 in the 44th minute!
I think that, all in all, we saw an absolutely top-class game. In the end, even though the goal came in the last minute, it was deserved for us. The game was great publicity for the Oberliga Westfalen

The second half was delayed because the floodlights went out. “We urgently need an electrician so that the game can continue,” announced the Lippstadt stadium announcer at 8:18 p.m. in the Liebelt Arena. Electricians were found, so play could resume shortly after 9 p.m. The Wattenscheid team kept their composure and took a 2-1 lead again thanks to Nnaji (63′). This lead was almost maintained until the end, partly because Tübing (79′) missed a penalty for handball.
But then, in the 97th minute, Lippstadt scored from a corner to make it 2-2! Lukas Wulf scored the much-celebrated equalizer for Lippstadt after the ball was played in from a set piece.
With 42 points after 18 games, SG goes into a well-deserved winter break.
“I think that, all in all, we saw an absolutely top-class game. In the end, even though the goal came in the last minute, we deserved it. The game was great publicity for the Oberliga Westfalen,” summarized SVL sporting director Dirk Brökelmann.
