The fans of FC Schalke 04 and Hamburger SV dominate the 2nd Bundesliga. Now there is an interesting development.
The sporting situation is clear. While Hamburger SV is currently in second place in the 2nd division behind local rival FC St. Pauli and is finally trying to get back into the Bundesliga at the sixth attempt, FC Schalke 04 is fighting against relegation to the 3rd division.
In another statistic, the two heavyweights in the Bundesliga’s second division are neck and neck. It’s all about the spectator statistics.
In terms of home games, FC Schalke 04 is currently still ahead. While an average of 61,470 fans have so far wanted to see the home games of the Royal Blues, “only” 55,510 fans on average have made the pilgrimage to the Hamburger SV stadium, according to the portal “diefalscheneun.de”.
If the miners don’t suffer a drop in attendance in the remaining home games, they should set a new record for the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season. So far, this record is held by HSV, with an average of 53,470 fans!
However, the situation is currently somewhat different for away fans. Here, Hamburger SV has now overtaken FC Schalke 04. After around 20,000 HSV supporters traveled to the away game at Hertha BSC Berlin last Saturday, the miners are now only in second place.
According to the portal, an average of 6,260 Schalke fans have seen the S04 play away from home so far, but 6,586 HSV supporters. Other providers show similar figures, with HSV also leading the way.
Here, however, the euphoria surrounding the good placement of the Hanseatic League should be reflected. In Gelsenkirchen, one cannot speak of it. It is all the more impressive that so many fans still come to the games. Because both clubs also lead the overall statistics nationwide for away fans. Only then come Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen.
However, the following information is also available: The Schalke fan club association has canceled its fan trips to the away games on Sunday at Holstein Kiel and also for the away game on February 24 at 1.FC Magdeburg (8:30 p.m.) due to a lack of interest. A warning signal? Not really. Because the tickets available for S04 are likely to be fully sold out in both cases.
