In these statistics, S04 shines – RWE is in 33rd place

With its number of spectators, FC Schalke 04 is well ahead of the other two professional leagues in Germany. Two former first division rivals are ahead of Royal Blue.

As in the previous season in the 2nd Bundesliga, FC Schalke 04 fans remain loyal to their club in large numbers. This is also reflected in the attendance statistics – the Royal Blues are in third place among the German first to third division clubs with the highest average attendance this 2024/25 season.

On average, 61,011 spectators have come to the previous home games in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen. According to statistics on transfermarkt.de, more spectators have only come to the stadiums of the Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund (average of 81,365) and Bayern Munich (75,000). In a global comparison of home match attendance figures for all first to third leagues, Schalke ranks twelfth.

The Schalke team is not the only second division team to make it into the top 18 in this ranking (as of November 26). However, 1. FC Cologne follows at a distance in eighth place (average of 49,929). The other second division clubs in the top 18 for home match attendances are Hertha BSC Berlin (9th/average of 48,597), 1. FC Kaiserslautern (11th/45,384), Fortuna Düsseldorf (12th/43,864), Hannover 96 (14th/39,343), 1. FC Nürnberg (15th/36,195) and Karlsruher SC (18th/30,392).

From the district, Bundesliga club VfL Bochum is in 24th place (average of 25,726), and third division club Rot-Weiss Essen is in 33rd place (16,866). Places 43 to 56 are occupied exclusively by clubs from the third division, with the exception of second division club SV Elversberg (47th/9,290). The last three places in the comparison of home attendance figures in the 2024/25 season so far are occupied by third-division club SC Verl (54th place/2,393), VfB Stuttgart II (55th place/2,059) and, in last place, Hannover 96 II (56th place/average of 900).
