FIFA President Gianni Infantino has claimed the World Cup award to Saudi Arabia for the 2034 tournament as perfect in a post on Instagram.
On Tuesday evening, Schweizer listed the upcoming venues and, in addition to the already announced hosts USA, Canada and Mexico for 2026 and Spain, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay for 2030, also listed Saudi Arabia for 2034, and was pleased about “three editions, five continents and ten countries” that will be involved in the event “the greatest show on earth”. “This is what makes football truly global,” wrote Infantino.
The bidding process was approved by consensus of the FIFA Council, wrote Infantino.
After Australia’s withdrawal earlier in the day, Saudi Arabia was the only contender for the bid. The deadline for bids for the 2034 World Cup expired on Tuesday.
Saudi Arabia is facing massive criticism for human rights violations.
