Infantino sells World Cup award to Saudi Arabia as perfect

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has sold the World Cup award to Saudi Arabia for the 2034 tournament as perfect in a post on Instagram.

Schweizer listed the upcoming venues on Tuesday evening and, in addition to the already announced hosts USA, Canada and Mexico for 2026 and Spain, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay for 2030, also listed Saudi Arabia for 2034 and was delighted that “three editions, five continents and ten countries” would be involved in staging “the greatest show on earth”. “This makes soccer truly global,” wrote Infantino.

The bidding process was approved by consensus by the FIFA Council, Infantino wrote.

Following Australia’s withdrawal earlier in the day, there was no longer any competition for Saudi Arabia’s bid. The bidding deadline for the 2034 World Cup expired on Tuesday.
