FSV Duisburg are bottom of the table in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The captain is also injured and now announces that he wants to leave the club in the winter.
15 games and only five points on the account, a goal difference of 14:47: For FSV Duisburg it has been a season to forget so far.
Captain Martin Klafflsberger has not been lucky either. He is suffering from a torn tendon and will be out until the winter break. “It’s all been really bitter. But I won’t have an operation and will rely on conservative treatment. I hope to be fit again in January,” said the 38-year-old goalkeeper.
The goalkeeper stood in the FSV goal in the first nine games of the season and conceded a whopping 21 goals. Only once did Klafflsberger manage to keep a clean sheet. “Our defensive work was and is simply not good. We have really cool guys in the squad and we also have a lot of fun. But in sporting terms, we are not one of the top teams in the league. Our squad has weaknesses. You have to put it that clearly,” says the team captain of the Duisburg team.
Even though Klafflsberger is grateful to FSV for the chance to play in the top league, he wants to leave the club again in the next winter transfer window. “Actually, I came as a backup. The club has three other good keepers. I want to make room there with my 38 years and leave in the winter. I hope that we can come to an agreement on the termination of my contract,” says Klafflsberger.
Does he still believe that Duisburg can stay in the league? Klafflsberger answers: “In football, everything is always possible. Last season, FSV was also in the bottom for a long time and still managed to save itself. With over 40 games, the season is damn long. I think the club will also do a lot in the winter as far as personnel is concerned. I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed for the boys. “
