At KFC Uerdingen, the new year 2024 begins with terrible news: The Oberliga club is 500,000 euros short!
This club just can’t catch a break: year after year, there are new negative reports about KFC Uerdingen. The days when presidents such as Agissilaos “Lakis” Kourkoudialos, Mikhail Ponomarev or Damien Raths made the headlines are over.
But the headlines saying that KFC lacks money remain constant year after year. In this respect, nothing has changed at the Grotenburg for years.
And the year 2024 began with a bombshell: according to board member Bernd Limberg, Krefeld will need half a million euros in the near future to finish the season in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The financial expert revealed this in an interview with the club’s radio station “Blau-Rot”. “We need the 500,000 euros now and not on May 30. We have to get the substance that will enable us to continue playing,” emphasized Limberg.
Coach and sporting director Marcus John, who has brought the team back on track in sporting terms, sent a rather relaxed message to Forecasting from his vacation in Seefeld, Austria.
John commented on a possible forced relegation that would result from another insolvency: “I’m really confident that we’ll get through this. And these aren’t just slogans. I have every confidence in those responsible. The signs are really good. The KFC supporters are also working tirelessly to generate new funds. That’s just great. In the meantime, there is also a great sense of cohesion within the club. We will manage that!”
KFC Uerdingen: 22 men in the squad – additions are not ruled out
The coach will invite his team back onto the pitch on January 8, 2024. After the five departures of Maurice Haar (Wattenscheid 09), Furkan Baydar (SC St. Tönis), Fabio di Gaetano, Anton Riegert and Aaron Schreck (all destination unknown), there will only be 22 men in training. These players will soon include Leonel Kadiata, who is still in rehab after tearing his cruciate ligament. “I think he’ll be able to start in February,” predicts John.
It is quite possible that the Krefeld team will be active on the transfer market once again. John: “We would benefit from a man for the left or right side. We’ll have to wait and see how the market develops in January. “
