Into the quarterfinals with ease – now last year’s shock

Preußen Münster has defeated Vestia Disteln in the Westfalenpokal. That means all the quarterfinalists have been determined.

There were no upsets in the last eight of the Westfalenpokal. Third division outfit Preußen Münster hosted regional league side Vestia Disteln and ran out comfortable winners, running out 7-1 winners.

The Eagle-bearers made the four-class difference clear from the outset. Coach Sascha Hildmann brought seven fresh players into the starting eleven. Disteln went ten minutes without conceding a goal, then Darius Ghindovean scored to put Münster in the lead (11th minute).

Joel Grodowski scored twice (22nd, 33rd), Marvin Benjamins (36th) and Thorben Deters (44th) increased the lead to 5-0 at half-time. In the second half, Grodowski scored his third goal (55th), and Kevin Schacht was also successful (79th). Disteln was able to celebrate beforehand: Yannick Goecke scored the consolation goal for the underdog.

Apart from the result, Münster was pleased that Shaibou Oubeyapwa made his comeback after an injury break, being substituted in during the second half. Marcello Romano, who played for ETB SW Essen last season and is currently a goal scorer in the second Preußen team, was also able to show himself for about half an hour.

With the expected victory of the third division club, the quarter-final field in the Westfalenpokal is complete. Münster will face SpVgg Erkenschwick in the next round, with whom they still have a score to settle. Last year, the Prussians were knocked out by the then-Westfalenliga club after a penalty shootout.

In the other matches, SV Rödinghausen will face Arminia Bielefeld, SG Wattenscheid will face SC Verl and RSV Meinerzhagen will face SV Lippstadt. The exact dates have not yet been set.

For Münster, however, it continues in the third division for the time being. After the 0-1 defeat at league leaders Dynamo Dresden, second-placed Jahn Regensburg await them on Saturday.
