Rot-Weiss Essen drops to 16th place after a 1-3 defeat against SC Verl and is now embroiled in a relegation battle. We discuss this in the RWE Talk.
Another setback for Rot-Weiss Essen in the 3rd league: RWE suffered a painful 1-3 (0-0) home defeat against their bogey team SC Verl on Wednesday evening. The defeat was triggered by a controversial red card against Julian Eitschberger in the 32nd minute, which infuriated all RWE fans and officials, as referee Nico Fuchs first showed a yellow card and then a red card.
The third home defeat of the season is causing concern to grow at Hafenstraße. The relegation zone is getting closer and closer, and the pressure on the team is mounting. On Saturday, there is a basement battle against crisis-hit Hansa Rostock. Our RWE Talk show will be discussing the bitter defeat against Verl and its consequences. Presenter Kira Alex will be talking to RWE reporters Ralf Wilhelm and Martin Herms.
There was a lot of excitement in the RWE camp about the red card against Eitschberger, but in our talk show, we also take an unsparing look at what happened in the half hour before the sending-off. Essen were unable to continue their upward trend of recent weeks and disappointed across the board. Even with a man down, their defensive performance left a lot to be desired.
Our RWE reporters emphasize that there is no need to panic at Hafenstraße just yet. However, staying in the league will not be a foregone conclusion. RWE faces a complicated third division season.
