VfB Frohnhausen lost their away match in the Lower Rhine regional league 1:2 (1:0) at SF Niederwenigern. There was a lot of anger about the referee’s performance.
What a bitter evening for VfB Frohnhausen. Leading 1-0 until shortly before the end, an absolutely infuriating final phase from VfB’s point of view resulted in a 2-1 defeat at SF Niederwenigern in the Landesliga Niederrhein.
The relegation candidates had played a good game and led 1-0 until the 87th minute thanks to a goal from Mario-Catalin Codreanu. Then followed an almost grotesque seven minutes in which the game was lost thanks to a brace from Sergej Stahl. To make matters worse, Marvin Gille was sent off with a red card between the two goals conceded.
Frohnhausen coach Issam Said did not want to blame his team too much. “My team played a great game. I can only praise them. We more than deserved to win here. I don’t think many teams have played here like we did today. I just feel sorry for the boys.”
Said was more concerned with the performance of referee Can Güzel, who lost his line a little in the final minutes and made some controversial decisions against the visitors. Said was harshly critical: “You’re taken out of the game here with two questionable decisions. With the red card, Marvin clearly hits the ball. But I can even accept the card. But then he gives the free-kick to make it 1:1, which is a huge mess to the power of three. “
With such wrong decisions, the association must also question itself. It’s not enough to simply downgrade the referee one level.
Issa Issa
Captain Issa Issa was also hard to calm down and went on a real rant against the referee. “It’s the fourth time the referee has whistled for VfB Frohnhausen and there are always red cards against us. It’s clear that he only whistles against Frohnhausen, we’ve never won under his direction. I wanted to ask him afterwards what he had whistled, but he wasn’t man enough to talk to me. When decisions like that go wrong, the association also has to question itself. It’s not enough to simply downgrade the referee one level. Another referee did something like that in Frohnhausen, he didn’t blow the whistle at all. I’ll make sure he doesn’t whistle for us anymore either. At some point it’s over.”
This was not the first time that the Frohnhausen team have had trouble with the referee; the 5-0 defeat at SV Budberg was probably another reason to complain about Güzel. “I don’t know what his problem is with us. How am I supposed to build the boys up after defeats if the referee blows his whistle like that? From the 85th minute onwards, he completely lost the plot and robbed my team of their reward,” Said was also annoyed.
Still four points behind – relegation battle continues
VfB could have been the big winners on the matchday, but in the end they failed to pick up a point and remain four points off the relegation places. The relegation battle continues on Sunday, April 14. PSV Wesel-Lackhausen will visit Frohnhausen at 3 p.m.
