“It was a very demanding game to get a grip on the ball strength of food.”

TSV 1860 Munich seems to have hit the mark with the appointment of coach Argirios Giannikis.

Five games, two wins and three draws: Argirios Giannikis’s record as coach of TSV 1860 Munich is impressive.

After the second win in his young tenure as Löwen coach, Giannikis was accordingly relieved.

“There was a great atmosphere in the stadium. It wasn’t an easy game. It was a very demanding game to get a grip on the ball strength in Essen. At the beginning, we had one or two chances, but then we were lucky when Essen had two chances. We can thank Marco Hiller that we didn’t fall behind,” said the former Essen coach after the 2-0 win over his ex-club RWE.

The 43-year-old’s plan of pressing high up the opponent only paid off after the opening goal. “It involves a certain risk. But we forced Essen to make mistakes and scored two goals. The team did a great job, remains unbeaten, and seems much more relaxed. For now, I’m satisfied,” said Giannikis.

The same goes for Abdenego Nankishi, who made his debut in the starting lineup for the Lions. “Considering how short his time with us has been, he’s done well. He was very agile and confident on the ball. I’m glad we have him,” said the coach.

On Sunday (February 11, 4:30 p.m.), FC Ingolstadt will come to Grünwalder Straße for the Bavarian derby. After five games without a defeat and now with 29 points on the account – five points ahead of the first relegation place – the mood at the Sixty is good.

We’ve got our confidence back, but we know we still have a lot of hard work ahead of us. But it remains a very close race in the fight to avoid relegation. We’ve now built up a small cushion and need to keep going. We can develop a real sense of euphoria. We’re trying to start that now,” Fynn Lakenmacher, scorer of the 1-0 against Rot-Weiss Essen, told ‘Magenta TV’.
