The DJK Sportfreunde Katernberg will face SV Straelen in the Niederrheinpokal on Tuesday evening from 7.15pm. The Esseners are hot.
Two games, two wins, 10:1 goals: the start of the season in the 2022/2023 district league season has been successful for DJK Sportfreunde Katernberg. “We confirmed our good preparation against SC Velbert II and Heisinger SV and deserved to win 3:0 and 7:1 respectively. We can continue like this,” said DJK coach Sascha Fischer.
A bonus match awaits the Katernberg team on Tuesday. SV Straelen, who finished bottom of the Regionalliga West, will be playing at Meerbruchstraße in Essen-Katernberg in the 1st round of the Lower Rhine Cup.
Clearly: We need a great day, a perfect day from our point of view. We don’t need to beat around the bush.
Sascha Fischer
Coach Fischer dreams a little and says: “They haven’t done anything in the Regionalliga yet. If we manage to get through the first few minutes without conceding a goal and set a few pinpricks, then they will start to think. That’s our plan for Tuesday. Who knows what’s possible.” But he also adds: “Of course we need a great day, a perfect day from our point of view. We don’t need to beat around the bush.”
The Essen district league coach feels it is a pity that Straelen are coming to Katernberg without Sunday Oliseh. The 1996 Nigerian Olympic gold medallist resigned from his coaching position at Römerstraße only last weekend – RevierSport reported.
“Yes, of course that would have been a nice additional story. But who knows: maybe Martina Voss-Tecklenburg will show up at our sports facility,” says Fischer. RevierSport has to disappoint Fischer here. According to our information, Mrs. Tecklenburg is on holiday in Majorca with her husband Hermann, boss of SV Straelen. But they too will certainly be following the Straelen cup match with interest via live ticker or other means.
