Sascha Voelcke had kept quiet about whether he would only face direct competition after leaving Rot-Weiss Essen. Now the fans have the answer.
Third division club SV Waldhof Mannheim has secured the services of Sascha Voelcke. Forecasting had previously reported exclusively, but now the transfer has been confirmed. The 22-year-old left winger left Rot-Weiss Essen on a free transfer, but did not want to comment on his new club after the Lower Rhine Cup final against Rot-Weiss Oberhausen. The Waldhöfer have now made this official.
“With the departure of Luca Bolay, we had a vacancy on the left flank. We can now more than fill it with Sascha, our preferred candidate. He can play in a back three as well as a back four and has many of the attributes we were looking for,” said Anthony Loviso, Technical Director of Sport at SV Waldhof Mannheim.
He continued: “When Sascha was given the confidence in Essen in the final phase, you could see his qualities week after week. We are very excited about his next development steps here in Mannheim.”
The 22-year-old Voelcke commented on his next career move as follows: “I am very happy that I can sign my contract here today for SV Waldhof. From the very first second, I sensed that the people in charge really wanted to see me play here. You could tell that they have a lot of faith in me here. That ultimately convinced me to take this step.”
Voelcke, who can play both offensively and defensively on the wing, played 52 games for Rot-Weiss Essen, scoring five times and providing eight assists. He was under contract with RWE for a total of three years.
Voelcke still had several third division offers in the back of his mind as possible summer transfer options, as well as inquiries from the Bundesliga 2. Now the decision has been made and Waldhof Mannheim have emerged from the poker game as the happy winners
