Kanoglu brothers ensure “dirty win” on the Dutch border

VfB Bottrop has made a successful start to the second half of the season. Six points after two games in 2024 are the perfect haul.

Two games, two wins, 5:0 goals: VfB Bottrop started the 2024 district league season with a 2:0 win against VfL Rhede and a 3:0 victory at GSV Suderwick.

The promotion favorites thus remain within two points of league leaders Sterkrade 06/07.

The encounter on Thursday evening – February 29, 2024 – in Bocholt-Suderwick was no treat for the 150 fans in attendance. In the end, all that counted for the favorites from the Ruhr region was the three-pointer.

Once again, Kudret Kanoglu was the linchpin of the VfB game. It was also the captain who put VfB ahead with a direct free-kick after an hour of play. Delowan Nawzad (68) and Samet Kanoglu (88), who also played a strong game in his first match after returning to VfB Bottrop from SC Reken, ensured the away triumph.

You drive 70 kilometers to the Dutch border on a Thursday evening to play a district league game at 8 pm. On top of that, the pitch was very deep and the opponents were very combative. You have to be fully focused. There really are easier tasks. That’s why the whole team deserves a big compliment.

“In the end, all that counts is the win. That was a real dirty win. If you want to get promoted, you have to win these games. You drive 70 kilometers to the Dutch border on a Thursday evening to play a district league game at 8 pm. On top of that, the pitch was very deep and the opposition were very strong. You have to be fully focused. There really are easier tasks. That’s why the whole team deserves a big compliment. We’ve shown that we can also turn such nasty games to our advantage. Now we’ll rest up at the weekend and then we’ll go full throttle again against MTV Hamborn,” Kudret Kanoglu told Forecasting.

The Bottrop side have no game next weekend and will not play again until Sunday, March 10, 3 p.m. at MTV Hamborn.
