Keeper Tom Müller on his league debut and the “mini-crisis”.

Tom Müller, goalkeeper of SC Preußen Münster, made a surprise appearance between the posts against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. The 24-year-old only found out about his starting eleven appearance a few hours earlier.

Preußen Münster keeper Tom Müller could hardly have chosen a more turbulent game for his debut in the Regionalliga West. At Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, the Eagles had to digest a bitter 2:3 defeat after a crazy course of play.

Due to a stomach bug, regular keeper Maximilian Schulze Niehues had to pull out at short notice for the top match. His substitute Müller, who moved to Münsterland from FC Carl Zeiss Jena last summer, only found out a few hours beforehand that he would be making his first league appearance in such an explosive match: “I found out the same morning. But the short notice was no problem. Every time I prepare as if I were playing. I have my routines,” the goalkeeper told us.

Four games without a win – SCP with autumn depression?

The afternoon at the Niederrhein went rather unhappily for the SCP. Head coach Sascha Hildmann already indicated that he could not understand some of the referee’s decisions.

Müller saw it similarly to his coach: “A lot went against us. We got a red card very early on, which probably wasn’t even a red card. It probably wasn’t even a foul. Then you play for about an hour shorthanded. Nevertheless, I think we did well and conceded ungrateful goals.” Now the keeper and his team have to “wipe their mouths and move on”.

The defeat in Oberhausen was the fourth Preußen match in a row without a win. The “mini-crisis” began with a 4-2 defeat at Alemannia Aachen – the first game without a win after 22 unbeaten games. This was followed by a defeat in the Westphalia Cup against Spielvereinigung Erkenschwick. One week after Münster was not allowed to complete the guest game at FC Schalke 04 II due to weather conditions, the club finally could not get beyond a 1-1 draw against promoted Kaan-Marienborn.

Müller remains confident and hopes for “new series “

After an almost perfect start to the season, the Eagles, who are favourites for promotion to the Regionalliga, are currently in a kind of autumn depression.

Goalkeeper Müller can understand the disappointment about the recent results and announced the turnaround: “We have other demands that we are not meeting at the moment. Nevertheless, we are firmly convinced that we can get out of this too and start a new series again.”

To prevent the pressure from mounting even further, Preußen Münster should at best start doing so right away next Saturday, when 1. FC Düren are guests at Hammer Straße (14:00).
