FC Schalke 04 and Keke Topp are going their separate ways. The talented striker joins a Bundesliga club.
Attacker Keke Topp is leaving FC Schalke 04 to play for Werder Bremen. The 20-year-old’s contract at Schalke was valid until June 30, 2025. All parties involved have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.
“Keke has developed very well at Schalke during his first full season in professional soccer. That’s why we made him an offer to extend his contract. However, it became clear during the talks that he wanted to move. Knowing this, we have now found an economically suitable solution,” explains Marc Wilmots on behalf of the sporting management. “We would like to thank Keke for everything he has given the club during his time here. We wish him all the best for his personal and sporting future.”
Born in northern Germany, Topp moved from Werder Bremen to the Schalke U19s in 2021. The attacker appeared in 26 second division matches and one first division match for the professional team. He scored five goals and provided two assists.
“Keke has developed very well in recent years. He has proven his qualities at Schalke 04 and we are absolutely convinced that he still has a lot of potential, which we would like to develop together with him. Keke is a Bremen boy, so it won’t be difficult for him to settle in with us,” explained Clemens Fritz, Head of Professional Football at Werder Bremen.
Bremen coach Ole Werner is also looking forward to the new addition to the Green-Whites’ offense: “Keke is a powerful, physically robust striker who always throws everything into his game. He is tactically well trained and has a good finish. He will enrich our game with his qualities.”
After Assan Ouédraogo (RB Leipzig) and Marius Müller (VfL Wolfsburg), Keke Topp is the third Schalke professional to leave the second division club for the Bundesliga 1 this summer 2024
