After the 3:7 defeat against Finnentrop/Bamenohl at the weekend and the Großkreutz red, the future of the world champion has been clarified.
“Kevin Großkreutz will leave us in the summer. He is moving to Westfalenliga club SV Wacker Obercastrop in the Westfalenliga,” Ajan Dzaferoski, boss of Westphalian first division club TuS Bövinghausen, told RevierSport.
Dzaferoski continues: “Kevin has now received a stupid red card and we will also miss him for the time being. We see now as the right time to clarify his future. He will leave and we all want a reconciliatory farewell. Kevin would also very much like to say goodbye with promotion to the Regionalliga.”
The 34-year-old Großkreutz, 2014 World Cup winner and German champion with Borussia Dortmund (236 competitive games for BVB, ed.), has been under contract at Bövinghausen since the end of January 2021 and has played 57 games (ten goals) since then.
Bövinghausen, which struggled for a long time to find a stadium suitable for the regional league, found the “Ischelandstadion” in Hagen for a possible promotion. The Dortmund fifth-division club thus also applied for the Regionalliga West.
The problem is that things are no longer going well for TuS Bövinghausen. The Dortmund team has been waiting five games for a win. Nevertheless, with ten match days to go, they still have promotion to the Regionalliga in their own hands.
After the 3:7 defeat against Finnentrop/Bamenohl, Dzaferoski announced a new head coach for this week. Großkreutz had been in charge as player-coach until then. But after his red card at the weekend, he was relieved of this position. The new coach is expected to lead TuS Bövinghausen back on track as early as Thursday (6 April, 7 p.m.) in the away match at Delbrücker SC.
Dzaferoski: “We had such a good starting position and still haven’t completely squandered it. We want to attack again with a new coach and realise our Regionalliga dream. “
