KFC Uerdingen is allowed to let 10,000 spectators into the stadium again

The Grotenburg opens its doors to more spectators again. KFC Uerdingen will soon be able to welcome 10,000 spectators per home match.

In the Oberliga Niederrhein, KFC Uerdingen have secured a good starting position for the rest of the season with seven wins from their last eight games.

Although the gap to leaders Sportfreunde Baumberg is still nine points, the gap has been greater. What’s more, KFC can now use its home ground properly again. Since October 2022, 2500 spectators have been allowed again instead of the previous 2000.

From the second half of the season, it will be 10,000. This means that on February 24, when Uerdingen face St. Tönis at home, the Grotenburg could be full. “The club is alive. It is an important part of our city and has the potential to become a sporting flagship again,” said Krefeld’s Lord Mayor Frank Meyer in November. “A stadium steeped in history is now available for this, but it is not a museum. The new Grotenburg meets the requirements of a modern professional stadium. These are conditions that will help the club.”

The club has now announced that advance ticket sales for the match have begun. For the match against St. Tönis, all seating blocks in the south stand and the covered standing area block P will be open. Supporters of the visitors can take their seats in Block A of the North Stand. “The opening of all seating blocks and especially the covered standing areas is a very important milestone for us,” reports KFC President Marc Schürmann. “It’s a completely different atmosphere when spectators are right down in the block on the edge of the pitch, and that will certainly give us an extra boost.”

He added: “Of course we hope that everyone will now grab their family and friends and that we’ll have a great crowd at the Burg for the little derby. Let’s fill the south stand!” Tickets are now available online and from Saturday at all advance booking offices.

And a nice side-effect could be that the Uerdingen team earns more money than before. Because it is known that the club needs 500,000 euros in the short term to secure its match operations. A home game in front of a large crowd would be just the thing. 85,000 euros have already been raised, Schürmann expressed his thanks: “The current popularity is simply great. ”
